A client event is a sales instrument, not a party

Inviting customers and partners is an investment in relationships. Your guests give you a day of their time, and at the end it becomes clear whether that day was worth it for both sides. The programme has to be measured against exactly that: content that helps guests in their own work, insights they can only get here, and time for conversations with the right people. A host who merely announces agenda items wastes this opportunity. She has to keep the guests' benefit in view and make the company look good without sounding like advertising.

Why the host role does not belong on stage

At a client event, the sales team wants to be with its customers, not at the microphone. If the head of sales moderates, he spends the day managing the schedule and the technology instead of talking to key accounts. An external host turns the roles back around: management and sales act as hosts and hold their conversations, while the stage still runs precisely. Critical moments, such as an open question round about product strategy, are easier to hold for a neutral voice than for the vendor itself.

Sales experience as the foundation

Jasmin Wölke spent more than ten years at Bosch in international sales and marketing. She has run client events herself and attended them as a customer. That is why her briefing questions cut to the point: which customers are in the room, where do they stand in their decision process, what should they tell colleagues after the event. At the Bosch Power Tools Innovation Day she moderated live demos and conversations with engineers so that product features turned into customer benefit. The project is listed under references.

Formats, languages and where the boundaries run

Typical assignments: the annual customer day, the partner event with awards, the product presentation for dealers, the executive dinner with a fireside talk. Many guest lists are international, so Jasmin hosts in English, in German or switching between both. For internal events without customers, see the corporate event moderation page; for stage work at trade shows, the trade fair host page. How a booking works is described on the book a moderator page.

Frequently asked questions

What does client event moderation cost?
It depends on duration and preparation: an evening format with two hours of programme is priced differently from a full customer day with demos, a panel and dinner. After the briefing you receive a written offer with travel costs listed separately.
How well does she need to know our products?
Well enough to moderate benefit instead of a data sheet. She works through products and target groups before the event and clarifies terminology with your team. The depth comes from your experts on stage; she asks the questions your customers would ask.
Does she host partner events with awards?
Yes. Awards for dealers or partners are often the highlight of the evening. She announces winners, paces handovers and photos and keeps the arc between the official part and the networking.
Can the event run bilingually?
Yes. With international guest lists she switches between English and German so that nobody just listens without understanding. The language plan is agreed in the briefing.
What distinguishes a client event from a corporate event?
The audience. At a corporate event your own employees are in the room; at a client event you host external guests who came voluntarily and should want to come back. The tone differs: more hospitality, fewer internal messages.
How much lead time does a booking need?
Two to four months are comfortable for a customer day with substantive preparation. Compact evening formats work on shorter notice if the date is free. An enquiry with date, place and format is enough.
