Moderation for your association conference

Jasmin Wölke moderates association conferences and association events in English and German: annual conventions, expert days and the programme around member assemblies. As a neutral voice she belongs to no camp within the association, which lets her lead debates that nobody internal wants to lead.

Jasmin Wölke moderates association conferences and association events in English and German: annual conventions, expert days and the programme around member assemblies. As a neutral voice she belongs to no camp within the association, which lets her lead debates that nobody internal wants to lead.

An association conference has several audiences at once

In the hall sit permanent staff and volunteers, long-standing members and new ones, the family business owner next to the corporate delegate, plus guests from politics and public administration. Each group listens differently and expects something different from the day. A host who speaks to only one of these groups loses the others. In the briefing, Jasmin clarifies who is in the room and what the conference should achieve for whom. On stage she then translates between the groups: she keeps welcome addresses on point, gives the expert programme space and makes sure the volunteers get their moment too.

Neutrality is the currency

Associations live on balancing interests, and many conference topics are contested: regulation, membership fees, the direction of the organisation. A moderator from the association's own ranks always stands for a position, whether he wants to or not. An external host can ask critical questions, take comments from the floor and sharpen a debate without it being attributed to anyone. How she runs contested rounds on stage is described on the panel discussion page.

From welcome address to member awards

The typical arc of an association conference: opening, welcome addresses, expert talks, a discussion round, honours for long-serving members, then the informal part. The formal business of the member assembly itself is chaired by the board; the statutes usually require that. Jasmin takes over everything around it: she opens the day, keeps the welcome addresses on schedule, frames talks and discussion and gives honours and farewells the dignity they deserve. The formal part stays lean and the day still feels like an occasion.

Experience with large, mixed rooms

In their mechanics, association conferences resemble large corporate conferences: many interests, a packed programme, one hall that has to be held together. Jasmin moderated the Bosch Global Sales Summit with more than 500 participants from 40 countries, a corporate reference that shows how she leads large, mixed audiences. For European umbrella organisations she hosts bilingually, as described on the bilingual moderation page. All projects are listed under references.

Frequently asked questions

What does moderation for an association conference cost?
It depends on duration and programme: an expert day with a discussion round is priced differently from an annual convention with an evening event. After the first call you receive a written offer with travel costs listed separately.
Does she chair the member assembly itself?
She hosts the frame around it, not the formal business. Motions, elections and resolutions are chaired by the board as the statutes require. Jasmin moderates the programme before and after and hands over cleanly to the chair.
How does the moderation stay neutral on contested topics?
Through preparation and posture. In the briefing, Jasmin has all positions explained to her, not only the head office's view. On stage she questions all sides equally hard and distributes speaking time visibly fairly. Neutrality does not come from softening the debate but from treating everyone the same.
Does she take over honours and farewells?
Yes, and she prepares them thoroughly: pronunciation of names, the story behind each honour, the right order on stage. An award ceremony that only hands over a certificate wastes the most emotional moment of the day.
Does she moderate association events in English?
Yes. She hosts European umbrella organisations and international expert days in English or bilingually, so that German members and international guests can follow the same programme.
How much lead time does a booking need?
Annual conventions are scheduled early; three to six months of lead time are common and comfortable. More compact association events work on shorter notice. An enquiry with date, place and conference topic is enough for a first assessment.
